Arm injuries

Many types of accident can result in injury to the arm - motor accidents, slips or trips, falls from height, workplace accidents, sporting activities. If such injury is caused by the negligence of another party, the victim may be entitled to claim compensation for pain and suffering, loss of earnings, medical expenses, permanent disability and other losses resulting from the injury.

Injuries to the arm may be relatively minor such as cuts or bruises but if cut leaves permanent scarring this should increase the level of compensation.

Arm injuries can be much more serious of course. Fractures can leave the victim incapacitated for a lengthy period and if the fracture does not heal satisfactorily there may be permanent disability possibly affecting employment prospects

Some accidents cause damage to the nerves and tissue in the wrist, arm or shoulder joints and it is often the case that there is some degree of permanent damage or recurring problems. If this is the case then the claim for compensation should take this into account.

Because of the importance of the arm serious injuries resulting in amputation or significant loss of use of the arm are likey to attract high levels of damages.

Like other joints in the body, those in the arm ie. wrist, elbow and shoulder are prone to Repetitive Strain Injury. This term relates to damage to muscles, nerves, tendons and other tissue in the joint caused by repetition of the same movement of the joint over a period of time. This often occurs during work activities and results in medical conditions such as as tendonitis, tenosynovitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, writers' cramp or tennis elbow.
