Motorway Driving

Motorways are thought to be the safest roads in the UK but there are times when serious accidents can take place on them. Motorways actually do pose risks, more for the people who are not used to driving at high speeds or have just learnt to drive recently. As per the statistics, 90 percent of the times it is negligent motorway driving that causes these accidents take place with merely 10 percent of accidents due to mechanical errors.

The most common reasons behind the increasing motorway accidents these days usually are the following:

• Close following of the car being driven in front
• Lack of focus while driving
• Fatigued condition of the driver
• Unfavourable weather conditions
• Problems concomitant with breakdown of the vehicle
• Mechanical errors or failures in the vehicle

Motorways are usually miles long and thus require apt skill to be driven over by the driver. Though no special training in motorway driving is required but it is very essential that the driver knows driving to the core and does not lose focus while the journey is on at all. Any one who has passed the driving test is fit to drive on the motorways but if only he/ she can handle the high speed challenges that come in the way.

Many people recklessly disregard the prescribed speed limits for the motorways and other traffic rules. In fact, they also forget to use the direction indicators when they are switching lanes. These are the main two reasons that are responsible for most of the accidents as it is sheer carelessness of the drivers regarding the traffic rules and nothing else. Close driving is also dreaded as if the car I the front pulls the brake suddenly, the car following does not get enough time to realise what is happening and apply the brakes. Thus, this often leads to bumping in the frontal vehicle leading to great damages.

Many grotesque accidents can take place on the motorways when the drivers lose concentration due to driving for long hours. It is important in such cases that the drivers make an exit at the next junction so that they can catch some breath and take in some fresh air to get refreshed and rejuvenated. There can be times though when a person may become a victim of the motorway accident because of other driver’s fault. In such a scene, the injured driver can claim for compensation amounts to suffice for the bodily and mental losses that he/ she has to suffer due to this accident.
