Common Construction Site Accidents

A construction site is usually an extremely busy place with a lot of action happening. In such a chaotic and hectic environment, construction & building site accidents are likely to happen too often. There are different kinds of construction accidents that may take place in a construction and most of these mishaps are equally deadly and tragic and are avoidable most of the time. Some common construction site accidents are:

Falls: According to the statistics, approximately 1000 workers lose their lives every year while on their construction job and one third of these fatalities are the results of falls either from roof, crane, scaffolding, elevator shaft or holes in the floor.

Falling objects: These objects may hit a person’s head and cause some serious injuries. The common injuries that are sustained due to falling objects can range from some minor cuts to the concussions, blindness and even death.

Crane accidents: Cranes are helpful for the workers as they allow them to build massive structures and lift heavy objects. Being extremely helpful, cranes can also prove to be extremely dangerous at times and the construction & building site accidents involving the cranes may cause serious injuries and even death of the worker. These crane accidents can be the result of high winds, defective cranes, lightning, electrocution and even falls.

Scaffolding accidents: On an average, around 65% of the construction workers have to frequently work on scaffoldings. Studies have showed that around 72% of the construction workers who got injured in a scaffolding accident connected the incident to the planking, the supports giving way, the worker slipping down or getting struck by some falling object.

Operating equipments: Unfortunately, there are instances when the construction workers are injured or run over by an operating equipment. For the workers, this kind of risk is increased especially when they are working on a highway or near a busy road with some heavy equipment. Any kind of lapse in the procedure can results in catastrophic construction accidents.

If hit by a highway vehicle: Sometimes, the motor vehicle drivers on the highway roads drive too fast or do not see the construction workers working on the road. When a worker is hit by a moving vehicle, he or she is either left seriously injured or even dead at sometimes.

Electrical accidents: Workers who have to work in cranes or on scaffolding usually remain near the power lines and are the most common victims of electric shocks and other electrical accidents.

Dangerous equipments: The power and size of machines and construction equipments can lead to some most catastrophic injuries.
