Construction site safety

The nature of work involved in the construction industry itself makes it a very risky job for workers at the site that are more prone to construction and building site accidents and injuries than employees in any other industry. Also, equipments that are worn by them personally so as to protect from exposure to lead increases the potential for accidents even more, as it:

  • Reduces dexterity
  • Narrows clarity and the area of vision.
  • Reduces hearing and communication capabilities
  • Increases stress from heat

There are primarily two ways in which construction site safety can be ensured:

  • Reducing unsafe conditions – It is an obvious thing that the employer and workers at the site are acquainted with general unsafe conditions that causes most accidents. So, measures can be taken to reduce exposure to these unsafe conditions and if this is not possible, proper equipments should be made available by the employer to ensure safety of its workers in such riskier tasks.
  • A check on unsafe acts – Every worker must be very much conscious for his/her safety, no matter how hazardous the condition at the site may be. A good training and awareness on construction site safety must be made available to workers so as to reduce accidents at the site to a minimum number possible. Safety of workers should be treated as a responsibility rather than a burden by the employer. How a dangerous task can be implemented in a less precarious manner is a skillful method of doing a job at the construction sites and must be possessed by every worker employed here. The potential hazards of every task should first be identified and then handled accordingly in the safest way possible.

Electrical safety, scaffolds, ladders, confined space for entry and fall protection are a certain places where one should be conscious about as they are more prone to risk for injuries and construction and building site accidents. A cautious approach to work at these places along with protected equipments and methods can be of great help to bring down the number of accidents at the construction site. However, if it is the negligence of lawyer that has been the cause for the accident, like not providing adequate protective equipments for hazardous work such as working in a coal mine, workers have all the right to ask for a compensation for any physical deprivation or monetary loss that it might have lead to in future.

Testimonials
Trip on highway
Mrs J tripped on a pothole whilst crossing a service road running parallel to a main road, fracturing her shoulder, wrist and ankle. The Council initially denied full liability for her accident alleging Mrs J was partly to blame for not avoiding the pothole. Excalibur arranged a Conference with a barrister and on his advice rejected this. After intense negotiations Mrs J was awarded £17,000.00 she said:
"I had help from the start regarding my claim and found the advice very reassuring. I have never had to make a claim before so was apprehensive but you did a lot to alleviate my worries. Thanks again for all your help and support."
