Driving a Forklift

Although forklift is one of the easiest options to move heavy loads, driving a forklift comes with its own rules and regulations. First of all, it is important to make sure that the forklift has been recently serviced and that the equipment is updated. Well-maintained forklifts are most effective in keeping you safe while you try to move a heavy cargo load. While driving a forklift, here are some guidelines that you have to follow to ensure safety for yourself as well as for other people working around you:

  • The riders must be equipped with only approved seats
  • It is always necessary to obey the speed limits, directions and signs
  • Make sure to drive cautiously and slowly and keep the eyes on road
  • Take care of the pedestrians
  • No one should be allowed to walk or stand under the elevated forks
  • The forks should always be in down position while driving
  • Maintain low speed on a sloping ground
  • The load should be pointed up to the slope
  • Do not try to raise load very high as it should be high enough only to keep the driving surface clear
  • The driver as well as the riders should keep their legs and arms inside
  • Before starting to drive the forklift, make sure to read and properly understand its user’s manual
  • Be prepared for using emergency training or protocol, whenever necessary
  • The pedestrian area should be properly separated from the forklift operating area by way of barriers, operation signs and marks
  • Mirrors for the pedestrians as well as the forklift drivers should be provided at all the blind spots
  • While driving forklift, the driver should make sure to use the seat belts and ensure that the seats are in good condition.

The forklift should be fitted with proper operating devices of warning such as turn signals, horn works and reverse lights and brakes work.
Forklifts are intended to make your load easy to carry and if you use the equipment properly, it will make your task more manageable, easier and quicker. But forklifts, like all other pieces of industrial equipments, need to be used with safety and only under controlled environment. Now-a-days, almost all warehouses, shipping docks and construction sites are making use of forklifts. Although a forklift driver does not need to have any kind of certificate of license but it necessary for him to go through an extensive forklift operating training. There is both formal as well as practical training for forklift operating before a forklift operator is allowed to operate the forklift independently.

Testimonials
Slip in Public House
Mrs C whilst walking towards the bar area slipped on the wet floor of a public house whilst walking towards the bar area. She fell awkwardly causing a complex fracture of her right wrist. The insurers denied liability alleging the floor was dry and that Mrs C was drunk and jumping on the dancefloor. Excalibur obtained evidence refuting this and issued the claim at Court. Settlement was reached just prior to the trial when Mrs C was awarded £20,000.00 she said:
"I would just like to say thanks to the staff who have been first class explaining things to me all the way and keeping me informed."
