Scaffolding Safety

Scaffolding is basically an undulating ladder that is used for elevated impermanent framework. It is used to support the workers and materials while the construction work is in progress. The main use of scaffolding is seen when large buildings and projects are undertaken. As their height can be easily adjusted enabling the workers to perform easily and with more convenience, scaffolding is one major equipment for the construction sites. The workers can easily stand over it and operate it conveniently on their very own. In fact, their work is much eased as the equipment has the capacity to hold over many items and materials at one time along with persons. As they have wheels that are lockable they are considered to be very effectual and safe to be used at such sites of construction profoundly.

Though scaffolding safety is ensured but the risk element is always there as it is big equipment. So, it becomes the responsibility of the employer to see that the scaffolding is always in proper working condition making the environment safer for the employees.  It is pertinent that the employer sees that only physically fit workers operate the scaffolding and they are aptly skilled. Also, the scaffolding also has to be properly working without any malfunctioning in the equipment. It has to be maintained from time to time so that the workers do not slip on it or get stuck. It has been quite often observed that missing base boards or plates can also lead to scaffolding injury. If the planks are not fitted properly or there are flawed toe boards, insufficient ties, improper guard railing or non secure bracing, there are increased chances of workers falling prey to grotesque scaffolding injuries. Immense structural damage can also occur to the workers if the very foundations of the scaffolding safety are not laid properly. So, it is essential that all precautions are undertaken to avoid such accidents.

If the workers at the construction site do get hurt because of improper maintenance of the equipment or any other cause which is not the result of their carelessness, they are entitled to claim for compensation. This compensation is necessary to suffice for the physical or mental injuries that the workers may suffer from. The amount that the victim draws as compensation is basically for the medical expenses involved and the financial crisis that he/ she may have to face as a repercussion of this accident.
