COPD compensation claims

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a general term used to describe a number of lung conditions in which the airways become inflamed causing breahing difficulties.

Whilst respiratory diseases may arise naturally, they are often caused by exposure to harmful substances in the workplace such as dust, gases, chemicals. Conditions which this type of exposure can induce include :-

Some conditions occur particularly in certain specific industries but potentially harmful substances are used or produced numerous industrial processes and employees can be exposed to illness if proper safety measures are not in place.

These lung conditions vary in seriousness from minor irritation to debilitating disease and in some cases death does result after a period of time.

Employers must abide by various specific regulations designed to protect employees. If they fail to do so or if they breach their Common Law duty towards their employees they may be liable to pay compensation.
