Footpath injury claims

Injuries caused by accidents on pavements and footpaths are extremely common in the UK and local authorities in particular receive thousands of claims every year. Examples of types of accident are :-

  1. Raised, broken or uneven paving stones
  2. Raised manhole or drain covers
  3. Potholes or worn, uneven or damaged surfaces
  4. Holes in the footpath or open manholes
  5. Worn, defective or unsafe steps
  6. Road works, excavations etc
  7. Surfaces negligently left muddy or slippery
  8. Objects left lying on footpaths

One of the most common accidents is tripping over paving stones which, in public places, are usually the responsibility of the local authority against whom any claim for compensation should be made. Local authorities are not automatically liable however. They may have defence in law if they can show that they had in place a satisfactory system of inspection and repair for the particular footpath or highway. Nevertheless they do have regulations with which they have to comply and if they are in breach of their duty a claim may lie against them.

Some accidents on public foothpaths or roads may be caused by the activities contractors working in the area in which case they may be liable to compensate the injured person.

If you have been injured in a footpath or pavement accident in the last three years and would like a free legal assessment of your case, please complete the Application Form. We will handle your claim on a No Win No Fee basis at no cost to you.
