Injured Whilst Walking

When roads are equally shared by automobiles and pedestrians, a large number of people are at a risk of getting injured whilst walking. Hundreds of pedestrian accidents take place in UK every year, leaving thousands of pedestrians fatally injured or handicapped for their entire life. Some of the factors that contribute to pedestrian accidents are:

Crossings without any traffic signals

Children suddenly running out on the street

People crossing from the opposite side of the normal traffic flow

People crossing between the intersections

Drivers driving under the influence of alcohol

Drivers driving while talking on mobile phone

Drivers unable to see the pedestrians in the dark

In order to avoid getting injured whilst walking, the pedestrians should wear bright and reflective clothing in the dark so that the vehicle drivers can easily see them and they should be careful while crossing the intersections, especially those that do not have any traffic signals. Tell your children not to run or play on the roads and if there is no sidewalk on a road, you should prefer to walk against the traffic.

Most of the times, automobile drivers are responsible for the injuries and deaths of the pedestrians and therefore, it is their duty to be alert while driving and not do any other activity while they are behind the steering wheel. Sometimes, pedestrians are injured due to neither the fault of their own nor the fault of the vehicle drivers. They are injured due to poorly designed crossings and intersections and improper configuration of traffic signals. If you have been injured due to the negligence or fault of a vehicle driver, then you have all the right to file a claim against the driver. But if you have been injured due to negligence on part of a government entity, then it can also be held responsible for your injury and you can file a compensation claim against it.

If you or one of your loved ones has been injured whilst walking, you can file a claim against the responsible party to get a compensation for the medical bills, loss of income, loss of earning potential in case of a permanent injury, loss of the benefits, damages for suffering and pain and rehabilitation. The compensation amount that you may get depends upon the extent of your injuries, the time that has elapsed after the accident and the proofs and evidences you can provide in support of your claim.

Testimonials
Trip on highway
Mrs J tripped on a pothole whilst crossing a service road running parallel to a main road, fracturing her shoulder, wrist and ankle. The Council initially denied full liability for her accident alleging Mrs J was partly to blame for not avoiding the pothole. Excalibur arranged a Conference with a barrister and on his advice rejected this. After intense negotiations Mrs J was awarded £17,000.00 she said:
"I had help from the start regarding my claim and found the advice very reassuring. I have never had to make a claim before so was apprehensive but you did a lot to alleviate my worries. Thanks again for all your help and support."
