Silicosis claims

Silicosis is a lung disease caused by the inhalation of dust containing crystalline silica. The particles of silica cause damage to the lung tissue which impairs the performance of the lungs to varying degrees. Eventually symptoms appear such as coughing, tight chest, breathlessness, weakness and difficulty with exercise. The condition may also make the sufferer prone to lung infections such as pneumonia.

The most common form is Chronic Silicosis taking perhaps 20 years or more to develop. Accelerated Silcosis also takes time to develop but symptoms may appear after as little as 5 years. The least common form is Acute Silcosis which can develop in a matter of months if there has been exposure to very high levels of silica dust.

Silica dust is found in various substances such as silica sand itself, coal, slate, granite, sandstone etc. Industries using these materials include mining, quarrying, drilling, stone crushing or cutting, foundries, creamics sand blasting and others.

Workers in such industries are at risk of developing silicosis if proper preventive measures are not in place and observed. These would include the reduction of dust to the lowest level possible within the working operation and the provision of personal protective equipment. If an employee develops the condition due to the employer's breach of duty a claim for compensation may lie against the employer.

If you are suffering from silicosis induced by your working conditions you may be entitled to compensation. If you would like a free legal assessment of your case please complete our Application Form. we will handle your claim on a "No Win No Fee" basis at no cost to you.
